“UFO Marzipan”

Just shy of a year ago, we shared Taking It To Heart Volume One with you, the first release from Calgary’s Treeline Recordings. Label owner Ryan Montemurro had a vision for a label whose purpose went beyond just releasing music into the world, but doing so in a way that would make a difference for those impacted by heart disease and stroke. By all accounts, the project was a success, with all net proceeds from Taking It To Heart (which featured contributions from the likes of Operators, The Besnard Lakes, and Woodpigeon) donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Keeping the momentum and goodwill moving forward, Treeline Recordings recently announced Taking It To Heart Volume Two, a second collection of previously unreleased music featuring U.S. and Canadian-based acts like CTZNSHP, Astral Swans, Dan Mangan, and Islands’ Nick Diamonds. Diamonds’s “UFO Marzipan” is a trip, recorded at the same time as Islands’ Taste and Should I Remain Here at Sea? double release. It’s a carnivalesque stroll through a musical hall of mirrors, where skinny verses warp into a rolly-polly chorus. As the coda to …Volume Two’s 180-gram coloured vinyl edition, “UFO Marzipan” is an amusing way to bring light to a serious matter.

Taking It To Heart Volume Two will be available on October 13 in a hand-numbered limited edition of three hundred vinyl copies as well as a digital download. Mark your calendars, and be sure to take a copy home with you.
