It’s Sunday morning and I’m in church. Québec City’s Harfang is leading the service, a melding of the sacred and traditional with the mystical and (maybe) profane. “Pleasure” is a small selection of their forthcoming Laugh Away the Sun but it makes a major impact. Arresting vocals and atmospheric arrangements blend to create that anxious feeling in the pit of your stomach. It’s one you get when you know, as John Cougar Mellencamp so plainly describes, that something’s gonna hurt so good. I’d happily toss a couple coins into the collection plate for the ritual of Harfang’s “Pleasure”.
