Mise en Scene
“Closer”

“Closer” is a song that sounds like it’s ready to rumble. Mis en Scene wield their guitars like shivs, waving their melodies through the air like brandished weapons. The Winnipeg-based trio’s rhythm section—drummer Jodi Dunlop and bassist Corey D Hykawy—erupts like Pop Rocks and vodka. Vocalist Stefanie Blondal Johnson’s blood-curdling wails and breathy singing feels attractively dangerous, like a warning hazard sign you can’t help but ignore. Cross the line into their riotous, rollicking indie-rock territory at your own peril/pleasure.
