Widely recognized for his skillful turn at covering others’ music, London ON’s Wolf Saga is no slouch when it comes to making original tunes. “Calling” is a synthy and stark cinematic song that does so much with so little. From the start, its understated piano motif threatens to explode into full-on “Born Slippy” euphoria, but Wolf Saga exercises restraint, reserving the catharsis until his vocals, appearing just shy of the halfway mark, begin resonating. “I can hear it calling me,” he says of ambition, his muse that beckons him to create. We can hear it, too; an intangible something. Mystical, magical, and uttering engrossing.
