Drowzy, I Want To Be Your Star / Hide n' Seek

The start of a new record label is like birth of a new galaxy. In both cases, a collection of stars come together through gravity’s pull, clustering around commonalities, sometimes preceded by a cosmic explosion. Yes, there’s far too many astronomical references in those first two sentences, but you’ll forgive the indulgence once you read on.

House of Commons is the new, Montreal-based record label run by Young Galaxy’s Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless. Their first release is a double A-side single by Drowzy, “I Want To Be Your Star” / “Hide n’ Seek”. Drowzy is Ramsay’s solo project, wherein he flexes his love of classic techno on a pair of stand-out dance numbers. “I Want To Be Your Star” prolongs its laid back, chilled out vibe with an extended mix; the poppy, plucky “Hide n’ Seek” an intriguing experiment in minimalist mixing.

The label, like its first official release, is a celebration McCandless and Ramsay’s love of club culture and dance music, a fondness Young Galaxy always flirted with but never as overtly as Ramsay does on this pair of tunes. The couple have future House of Commons releases by other artists already in the works, but sadly, it’s sounds like Young Galaxy may have gone super nova. That’s heartbreaking news, but here’s hoping Drowzy (and some iteration of Young Galaxy) keeps adding brightly burning stars to our musical constellation.
