Following the release of MSEA’s previous single, “Mouth of the face of the sea,” my anticipation for her upcoming debut album, Our daily apocalypse walk, was already palpable. “It’s got a little ring to it,” the next single from the project, did not merely add to my eagerness but rather deepened it.
This second track confirms that MSEA has built a consistent, tangible acoustic soundscape that is dark and dreary yet simultaneously airy and ethereal. Grim, industrial drums kick in, while MSEA’s chilling vocal melodies solidify her nightmare-pop label. Gritty synths tear through the gloomy instrumentation, paving the path for the highlight of the track: bone-chilling strings that tug at the listener’s attention following the first chorus. Though the bridge could have delivered a more novel twist on the synth melody, the track ominously fades to a close—until I pressed replay.
