Consilience’s Under Our Beds is where fragments of dreams collect and weave themselves together.
LISTEN:
I went looking for music to soundtrack this past Sunday’s supermoon, called the “cold moon”, and I found Under Our Beds
by Montreal-by-way-of-Edmonton’s Consilience, a dreamy collective led by Tasy Hudson. Though she’s joined by her band when she appears live, Hudson plays all of the instruments on Under Our Beds herself. Its ten songs are underpinned by her wintry piano, tracing subtle melodies like frost crystals on a window pane—they appear to have no start or end, yet they still find elegant ways to resolve themselves.
“Secrets” twinkles and sparkles like an icy plane reflecting the finest of light from the night’s stars. “Soft and Slow” is a misnomer of a title, as it finds Hudson rocking a little harder and a little faster. “Hey / Take your shot,” she intones with appealing attitude, “Make your point and make it known.”
Like a full moon, Consilience reflects back to us the brilliance of our day as interpreted by our subconscious mind. Under Our Beds is where fragments of dreams collect and weave themselves together to form a second consciousness. It is sound best suited for brisk temperatures in the dark of night.
